Which professionals can benefit from a name tag?
Although name tags are associated with the healthcare sector, today professionals from many fields wear them: nursing, medicine, nursing assistant (TCAE), dentistry and dental hygiene, pharmacy, physical therapy, podiatry, veterinary medicine, psychology, speech therapy, nutrition, teaching and early childhood education. The idea is always the same: for the person in front of you to know your name and what you do, without having to ask.
Fastening systems: pin, magnet or velcro
This is the hardest decision. Let's go through them one by one:
Pin fastening
- Works well with: resistant uniforms and scrubs.
- The good: holds firmly even if you move a lot, doesn't fall off.
- The not-so-good: over time it leaves a small mark on the fabric and is not ideal for thin blouses or lab coats.
Magnet fastening
- Works well with: lab coats, blouses, blazers and garments you don't want to pierce.
- The good: doesn't perforate the fabric, looks elegant and can be removed in two seconds.
- The not-so-good: not recommended if you have a pacemaker or any medical device sensitive to magnetic fields.
Velcro fastening
- Works well with: uniforms that already have velcro or if you're going to sew it on yourself.
- The good: comfortable, no punctures, easy to switch from one garment to another.
- The not-so-good: requires the velcro counterpart on the clothing.
With resin or without resin?
The clear resin gives that shiny and professional finish, and protects the print from rubbing, friction and contact with chemicals, hand sanitizer or constant hand washing. If your name tag is going to be used intensively (and it will be), the resin more than pays off. Name tags without resin are lighter and cheaper, but less durable.
Personalization: what really makes the difference
A good name tag has four elements:
- Your name (with or without surname, depending on your sector and preference).
- Your profession or category: "Nurse", "Dr.", "TCAE", "Hygienist", "Teacher", "Veterinarian"...
- Your specialty or service, if you wish: "Pediatrics", "Emergency Room", "Operating Room", "Geriatrics"...
- A design that identifies you: colored background, pattern, avatar, illustration.
A tip we always give: if you work with children, a friendly drawing on the name tag breaks the ice immediately. It reduces the anxiety of the little ones and also helps them remember you more easily.
Size, weight and comfort
A name tag that is too large or heavy ends up being uncomfortable. Ideally, it should be visible at a glance from 2 meters (about 7-8 cm) and almost unnoticeable when worn. We work this way because when an item is heavy, it ends up in a drawer.
How to care for your name tag so it lasts for years
- Clean it with a soft cloth and soapy water. Avoid strong solvents.
- If it gets wet with hand sanitizer, dry it immediately.
- When not in use for a long time, store it in a dry place.
